Stonehaven and District Men’s Shed Meeting November 30th 2017

The shedders gathered at the Bath Street Community Centre for transport to the Portlethen and District Men’s Shed for their regular soup and sandwich fundraiser. The weather was terrible with snow squalls and ice underfoot, but seventeen brave souls headed out to Portlethen. We were given a warm welcome by the Shed chairman Walter McMillan, the secretary George Pringle, and all the members.

The home-made soup and sandwiches were excellent and very welcome. The photograph shows Peter, Robert and Keith tucking in to their soup. This was followed by tea or coffee and cloutie dumpling or fruit loaf. A super lunch was had and we thanked the members and their ladies for the fine food.

Walter and his team then showed us round their shed which is nearing readiness to start operations. The workshop area has been fitted out and, due to space limitations, Walter was able to offer us a cross-cut power saw and a bench planer which we gratefully accepted. The social area is nearly complete with a kitchen and bespoke disabled toilet. A paved ramp with handrails has been installed to link the workshop and social area.

On completion of the tour, and a successful raffle for some of our group, we gave our thanks and good wishes to Walter and his team before setting off for Stonehaven.
